Systems engineering is the interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary discipline that applies a holistic systems thinking approach to the realization, use, and retirement of complex engineered systems over their entire life cycle.
It acts as the central function that integrates all specialty engineering fields (like mechanical, electrical, and software) into a cohesive development effort.
