Removing unnecessary complexity
Remove Complexity & Drive Success in Systems Engineering Design
In this session, we will explore the key sources of complexity in systems engineering design and, more importantly, how to eliminate them. Using systems thinking, collaboration, and cutting-edge tools and techniques, we’ll equip you with strategies to streamline your processes and improve efficiency.
What to expect:
✅ Learn the most common causes of complexity—and how to remove them
✅ Discover how collaboration across teams and the supply chain can simplify design challenges
✅ Explore the role of AI in design and certification to reduce effort and risk
✅ Analyze real-life examples of complexity—and how they were successfully overcome
You’ll also have the chance to share your own experiences and challenges, making this an interactive and practical learning opportunity.
By the end of this session, you’ll be able to set yourself, your team, and your projects up for success by identifying and removing complexity from day one.

Pete started his career as an Engineering Apprentice within the British Army, rapidly promoted to Corporal and deployed to Kosovo during the Balkans conflict as well as multiple peace-time training activities across the globe.
Beginning his career this way has given him an excellent insight into the needs of the user within the Defence industry as well as the ability to adapt to many different environments. From here, he worked with way up through different Engineering roles, to a Team Lead and Engineering Manager within Boeing Defence UK.
This role provided him with the opportunity to teach and mentor all technical and programme staff to have an understanding and appreciation of how Systems Engineering can enhance their own roles and projects, delivering training and mentoring across the entire UK business as well as their customers.
Pete is now working as a Principal Consultant, continuing to deliver to customers and as well as develop his own skillset.
