Technical Problem Solving - Stay Ahead of Complexity

Be prepared for 2020 and Beyond!

By Mike Johnson, 7/2/2018

The meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos is a reminder of a key statement made in 2016 with respect to the future of jobs:

With regard to the overall scale of demand for various skills in 2020, more than one third (36%) of all jobs across all industries are expected by our respondents to require complex problem-solving as one of their core skills, compared to less than 1 in 20 jobs (4%) that will have a core requirement for physical abilities such as physical strength or dexterity.

Solving complex problems is one of the most urgently required skills in our current time. As technologies become more advanced, the possible solutions created by them become more and more complex to understand, design for and successfully implement. This can be seen across multiple industries (eg. Aerospace, BioTech, Power generation, Defense etc) and is causing significant issues to reliability, maintenance, project cost, product performance and overall schedules.

In this one-day course, a systematic methodological process for applying to technical complex problem solving will be taught. Each stage of the problem-solving process will be expanded to include real-world examples in addition to various approaches for tailoring and applying the process. The course includes a moderated group workshop where a modern-day example will be worked through.

This course will benefit a broad spectrum of people working within technical disciplines such as: IT, Software development & testing and all traditional engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, optical and thermal).
