Where does the role of Systems Engineer end

Event Description

Webinar:  Where does the role of Systems Engineer end?

Systems Engineers come in many flavors. No two Systems Engineering roles are completely alike, which is necessary given that not every person, project or organisation is alike. From my 20+ year experience of working as a Systems Engineer and/or managing teams of Systems Engineers, I had very different roles working at Thales and RUAG Space (now Thales Alenia Space Switzerland). The Lead Systems Engineers working in my group at Roche Diagnostics also had unique roles in comparison to my former defence and space industry roles. Ultimately though, there is something at the core of all Systems Engineering roles that they generally do have in common.

The challenge for all Systems Engineers – and notably their managers – is to ensure the core Systems Engineering role is clearly defined and the key responsibilities are identified and managed effectively. Otherwise, the Systems Engineer can end up covering many areas of engineering that are simply not well defined in the other disciplines. Systems Engineers can easily become very overloaded when their workload is not well managed. Crucially, there is always the threat that the core Systems Engineering function is overlooked, even in cases where there are many “Systems Engineers” working on the projects.

In this webinar, Mike will provide his insights of the core Systems Engineering role and responsibilities that all industries should be aiming to cover, irrespective of the domain, type or size of the organisation.
